Ep. 134 | You're Not a Victim of Your Circumstances. Here's Why.
Apple Podcasts | Spotify | YouTube
What if the circumstances you're experiencing aren't just happening to you, but are actually being shaped by you?
In this episode of the 100xLife Podcast, Rob Dayton continues the coaching series with a shift from judgment to the deeper mindset underneath it.
Most of us believe our circumstances are happening to us.
Jesus teaches something different. That our inner state is actually creating our experience of those circumstances.
Rob unpacks a simple but radical statement: everything you're experiencing, you're creating. Walking through Jesus' teaching on faith, doubt, and the eye as "the lamp of the body," Rob shows how our internal alignment of spirit, soul, and body determines whether we live as victims of circumstance or as people who actively shape their experience through love.
Because the goal was never to control what happens to us. It's to notice how our inner world is already shaping how we experience everything that does.
If you've ever felt like a victim of your circumstances, wondered why some people seem more resilient in hard seasons, or struggled to understand what it really means to walk by faith, this episode offers a practical framework for taking ownership of your inner life.
You'll Hear
Why "everything you're experiencing, you're creating" isn't as extreme as it sounds
How Jesus connects faith, doubt, and moving mountains
Why your triune being (spirit, soul, body) must align for faith to have power
The difference between being a thermostat and being a thermometer
Why "God is in control" can sometimes work against Jesus' actual teaching
How your inner state shapes what you perceive as good or bad
Why victim mindset limits your capacity to love
Practical journal prompts to identify where circumstances still control you
Journal Prompts
Who would I become if I fully believed that everything I'm experiencing, I'm creating?
Holy Spirit, in which area of my life do I let negative circumstances dictate my inner state, instead of the other way around?

Hey, 100x lifers, welcome back to the podcast. today we're going to be continuing our work to grow our capacity to love. We will give you an we're gonna give you a statement you can shape into a powerful mindset. Here's that statement. Everything you're experiencing, you're creating. Okay. It's a big statement. Everything you're creating, everything you're experiencing, you're creating.
And so let that sink in. the this 100xLife Podcast is here to support your ongoing growth in abiding in the words of Jesus and his love. So every week I'm working to help you create a pathway to create greater amounts of transformation in your life. Specifically, we're focused on the words of Jesus and how to put them into practice. For the past three podcasts, we've been doing a 100xLife coaching sessions. I've loved
These coaching sessions, they've been focused, hopefully helping you focus on growing your capacity to love. In week one, we talked about the design that God has perfectly designed creation to grow his ha offspring's capacity to love. That's you. So everything, the triune being, spirit, soul, body, the the those elements are created to maximize.
Your capacity to love, the invention of time itself, which is in heaven there is no time. So there's an invention of time that to expand our capacity to love. Marriage, how many know? It's an opportunity to expand our capacity to love. procreation, having kids. That one is for the pre-Christian, is very profound experience of God, is when they actually have a kid. The concept of age, the invention of relationships.
For our conduit to practice our love. You can love is not love unless it is given. So relationships are critical to practice our capacity to love. And then even evil, I didn't say this in this podcast, but even evil, which God did not create, we chose, or someone that Jesus or God created, chose evil, but then God works that evil to our good. And when he works all things together for our good.
Another way of saying that is he is working all things together to increase our capacity to love because love is good. We introduced a new question to help you amplify the Trinity's purpose in you. What are you capable of concerning love? What a powerful question. I hope that you've given more thought to that question. What are you capable of concerning love? And the question can be asked in every area of life.
Obviously, internally, how can I think differently? This is would be Jesus' repent and believe. How can I think differently in my life to increase my capacity to love? In how can I increase my capacity to love in marriage? Rather than the question, another good question might be how do I love my spouse more? but even a better question is: how can I increase my capacity to love my spouse? How can I increase my capacity?
to be a loving father, a mother, or as a worker, how I'm going, how am I going to show up in this working relationship where I'm practicing my talents and and and putting them out there to serve others? How do how does that impact or grow my capacity to love? In my stewardship, everything that God, God owns everything I have, in my stewardship of what He's given me to steward, how do I grow my capacity to love? What's my
Role in Kingdom Calling in How is my role in Kingdom Calling expanding my capacity to love? Might be another way to ask that. So all these areas of expanding our capacity to love, we have this amazing opportunity. In the following two podcasts after that, we talked about the biggest impediments to the expansion of your capacity to love. And those are judgments. Judgments, so
We shared how Jesus' instruction on not judging others lest you be judged. You know, don't judge others lest you be judged. We showed how the process of judgment is a reflection of something within you, not the other person. I hope that was powerful to you. It's really instructive that you you get judged when you judge because the judgment is ultimately about you. We suggested that every complaint you have about another person is a pathway.
To identifying an area of internal growth for you. Isn't that fascinating? I just love that thought that every single complaint can actually be a resource to you. Yes, it could be a resource to me. If I just think about, okay, well, how am how am I actually why am I complaining? I'm how is what's going on inside of me generating this judgment or complaint? We gave you a a strategy to disrupt and avoid judgments altogether by simply.
Following your spirit's prompting in your heart, noticing every, noticing even the smallest action that your spirit is prompting you to do is a powerful way of avoiding judgments. In these coaching sessions, I'm asking that you take the time to journal and reflect on the implications, the impacts of growing your capacity to love. That's where you're going to to have transformation.
I can't do it for you. I could just give you the questions. I can, I could obviously be a resource to point you in the right direction, but you have to do the work. The mind is your consciousness and it needs to be intentionally focused. If you're going to effectively rewire your brain, which is your body, the more time you set aside to think and write about these things, the faster you'll transform the way you think. I am so here for your transformation.
This is the outcome I'm looking for. This is why Jesus created me to get transformation out of people. So this is Jesus' first command: repent and believe. Change the way you think so that you can fully embrace and live the words of Jesus. And remember that true faith occurs when your spirit, which is seated in heavenly places, your soul, which is where your mind will and emotions, and your body, which includes your brain, when those three parts of your triune being are in.
Full agreement and alignment, then you are operating in faith. Only then, until then, you're internally divided. Your spirit wanting one thing, your soul another, and your body still another. This is Jesus' 100x life process of transformation. It's an internal work to retain, resist, refocus, and reproduce God's kingdom message. And it the work happens inside of you.
So in this process, as we said in 100x life, you must take authority. Your mind must take authority over the body, which is the brain, and give it to the spirit to lead. And when this happens and the brain gets reprogrammed to live the automatic behaviors of love, that's when we know our faith for an area of life is fully engaged and powerful.
It's when faith is aligned and in full full agreement that we can move mountains, as Jesus said. Double doubt exists within our doubt actually exists within our triune being. Doubt is when your spirit, soul, or and body are not aligned. Doubt divides and destroys the power of belief or faith. That's why Jesus says that if you don't, you can't doubt within you in order to.
Have your faith actually have power to move mountains. Which brings us to this week's coaching session. I want to invite you into a new way of thinking that will hyperdrive your ability to live the words of Jesus and his behaviors of love. It's a mindset based on a statement. Here's the statement: everything you're experiencing, you're creating. Here's another way to say it. In your inner state determines how you experience.
Circumstances. That's another way of saying it. Jesus totally taught this. let me give you some some scripture reference to ground where we're going. We already talked about his reference to moving mountains. This is faith fully aligned. So your experience, you're creating because your experience, your inner state of whether you are fully aligned in faith determines how you experience or what you experience in the world, whether that mountain moves or not.
We can we can use that to represent almost any area we're believing for. Jesus says, Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, be taken up and cast into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted to him. Therefore, and this is about prayer, he says, Therefore, I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask.
Believe that you have received them. Think about that. Past tense, believe that you've received them, and they will be granted to you. In other words, your inner state is creating or preventing the outcome. you'll another situation that you're very familiar with is Jesus often said to people, Your faith has made you well. Isn't that interesting? And he does that when they're thanking him. They thought, thank you, Jesus, for healing me. And nope.
Your faith has made you well. And again, Jesus is pointing to the inner state that is creating the outcome. In Jesus' command to regulate how you see, this is in Luke 11, 33 through 36, he says that the eye is the lamp of the body. How you see determines if you're full of light or if you're full of darkness. How you see is a mindset. How you see is shaped by your focus.
Your predominant thoughts, how you see, is creating your experience. If you see in an evil way, your experience will be evil. If you see in the ways of love, your experience will be love. And then Jesus has this claim in Luke 6:45. He says, Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. In other words, the heart is the inner state.
Of the body. And that's determining the action that you actually see or hear in the world, how someone is speaking. What you might actually say is out of the abundance of someone's heart is what someone does, because that's how they speak, is aligned with how they act. And then finally, Jesus' 100x life parable of the sower, which we talk about in the book, implies that one's pursuit of the words of Jesus actually determines.
Kingdom production or not, that how you receive the kingdom message. Many believe that God is responsible for everything.
How you receive the kingdom message. So in your heart, you're cultivating the kingdom message. And how you cultivate it, retain, resist, refocus, is how you're going to reproduce it. The 100x seed of God is 100x. It's always 100x. It's only only varies in its output or reproduction based on our hearts. Our internal state is dictating how we experience life.
Many believe that God is responsible for everything. We commonly hear God is in control. How many times have you heard that at church? And I totally get it. This even sounds worshipful, but in many areas, this statement is contrary to Jesus' teaching. Jesus is calling us to be like him. He's created us in his image for the purpose that you would become a giver of love like him. And love requires choice, or it is not love.
Jesus has given us control over choice and we choose to love or not. What will you choose? You have the power to choose. If you are to grow in your ability to love, you must take responsibility for everything you're experiencing. You must clearly see that your role is the perfect outcome of love. So your inner state, your heart, how you see, what you believe.
Are all dictating how you experience life? Everything you're experiencing, you're creating. The opposite thought would be everything I'm experiencing is created by others. This is the victim mindset. I'm simply a victim of circumstances. I'm a reed blowing in the wind. This means your levels of love, joy, pay. This means that your levels of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control.
Vary based on your experience. They are strong when you experience good, and they're low when negative circumstances ensue. So if your mindset is that all the things I'm experiencing is external and other people are responsible for it, you're just gonna be a victim. The more powerful truth is that love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self control are within me now.
They're within you now. You can choose to live in these regardless of your circumstances. Therefore, every experience is full of the fruits of the spirit. You're not blowing in the wind. You become instead of the thermostat, instead of becoming the thermometer that just adjusts with the climate, you become the thermostat and you set.
The power to choose is yours. What will you believe? So grab your journal. Let's do some work. Let's do some work in your journal. Let's, these are some questions. So pause, pause the podcast, get your journal, let's write these down. Here's the here's the first question. What would your how would your how would your life change if you fully bought into this statement? Everything I'm experiencing, everything I'm experiencing, I'm creating.
How would your life change if you fully bought into that statement? Another way to ask this question is: who would you become if you believed this truth? That one's a little deeper because who would you become? How would your life change? Who would you be if you actually believed this statement? So journal your thoughts. What kind what comes to mind first? another way of answering this, you could just say, I would become a person who.
And then fill in the blank. And then how does this thought challenge you? There's a lot of work to be done in writing. Remember, every time you journal is a pathway to transforming the way you think more rapidly. So spend some time in your journal answering that question. Who would you become if you believed this truth? And then you could say I would become a person who would, and then just fill in the blank.
And you can do that in a lot of areas. And then ask Holy Spirit: in which area of my life do I let negative circumstances dictate my inner state versus the other way around? And you're asking Holy Spirit, you're going to journal from him in the first person from Holy Spirit. This is the question again: in which area of my life do I let negative circumstances dictate my inner state versus the other way around? I invite you to explore these truths this week.
I invite you to explore this truth this week. Just test it out. Choose to conscientiously focus on it in the circumstances of your day. So you're just going throughout your day and you're just gonna notice. So whether positive or negative, you so the circumstances, positive or negative, ask this question how am I creating this circumstance? How am I actually the generator of what's happening? Because you're
You're the generator of how you perceive everything. Are you going to perceive opportunities of love and get really excited about it? Or are you going to be threatened by an experience and think that someone's bringing something bad to you? And then you have to defend yourself, you have to take control, you have to become a victim, you have to pout about it, you have to complain about it. Those are some of the outcomes. Just notice what what way of thinking?
Is hardwired into you and is playing out in the experience in this moment. So you're experiencing a thing, maybe it's positive, negative, you know, whatever. No problem if it's negative. We're all in the gym. We're all work. This is the workout. This is why we're talking about it. We're working out. No one's perfect at this yet. We're gonna be perfect at this in heaven and it's gonna be glorious, but we're working to increase our capacity to love. So just notice how is
How is my hardwired thinking in my brain currently driving how I experience this moment or how I create this moment? The goal for now is to just get good at noticing your inner world, how your inner world is impacting how you see the experience you're in right now. Remember, God's purpose is in his design of you.
Is to maximize your capacity to love. So another way to look at circumstance might be: how is my ability to love impacting this experience or limiting it or growing it? How how would love handle this circumstance? If you want to personify love, that might be even more resourceful to you. How would love handle this circumstance? How would love see this circumstance? How would love create this experience?
I invite you into doing the work of love. This is Jesus' process of transformation. That we would that we would live the behaviors of love. And these coaching sessions are designed for you to sit with God and focus on how you will think differently to become the lover He's created you to be. I hope this is helping you. I hope it's a resource to you. Put in the work this week to repent and believe you're changing the way you think and you have what it takes.
I will see you next week.
