Ep. 138 | How Coaching Others Changed How They Follow Jesus
With John Van Lenten + Jim Johnson
Apple Podcasts | Spotify | YouTube
What if teaching someone else how to follow Jesus is the fastest way to grow your own faith?
In this episode of the 100xLife Podcast, Rob Dayton sits down with two 100xLife Coaches from Santa Barbara, John Van Lenten and Jim Johnson, both longtime friends who recently led groups through the summer challenge.
John and Jim share what they call "the practical side of abiding," the idea that following Jesus isn't a burden, but the actual blueprint for a life of health, freedom, and joy. They talk about why going through the same material again and again still uncovers new layers, how forgiveness and obedience are now backed by modern science, and how coaching others has kept their own faith sharp and accountable.
The conversation also turns toward something Rob has been thinking about deeply, that love may be the one thing we actually carry into eternity. Drawing on the book Imagine Heaven and near-death experience accounts, the three wrestle with what heaven might actually be about, and how that reshapes what matters most here on earth.
If you've ever wondered what it looks like to lead others through a process that changed your own life, this episode offers an honest, encouraging look at what that involves.
You'll Hear
Why John and Jim describe coaching as "the practical side of abiding"
How the metaphor of being "a room in the Father's house" reframes obedience
Why practicing the words of Jesus is showing up in health and psychology research
What keeps John and Jim coming back to the same material, and still finding new depth
Why coaching has kept both men more accountable in their own faith
How the idea that "love is the only thing we take to heaven" reshapes what matters now
What resources are available for anyone considering becoming a 100xLife Coach

Rob Dayton (00:00)
Welcome to the 100X Life Podcast, where we activate people who desire to live the words of Jesus and experience the abundant life He promises. I'm your host, Rob Dayton, and I hope this podcast inspires you to put in the work of following Jesus.
Rob Dayton (00:37)
100x Lifers, welcome back to the podcast. We have an incredible interview today, as I staged last week. We have 100x Life coaches, John Van Lenten and Jim Johnson. Both of these men are from Santa Barbara. They are all stars in what they're charging to serve Jesus and create, be coaches of Jesus followers John Van Lenten.
We just go way back. We've got story after story. He's been on the podcast before. he's with Influencers, which you heard from Bob Johnson last week. So he might get into a little bit of that. Then Jim Johnson took the master's program and we've been in journey together through Influencers and just running in Santa Barbara. I I know you guys probably missed me since I moved to Ben, but
Jim Johnson (01:22)
Yes, we do.
Rob Dayton (01:23)
Back
frequently, back frequently. In fact, I'll be there not next week, but the Monday after Monday. I'll be in Santa Barbara, so that'll be fun to see you guys. Welcome to the podcast.
John (01:34)
Thanks, Rob.
Jim Johnson (01:34)
Be here.
Rob Dayton (01:36)
Awesome. Okay, well, you're both you're both, you know, Jim's been on the podcast as well, too. So you guys, you know, do need an introduction, but if you wanted to say anything more background about yourselves as we talk about your journey as 100x life coaches. So what you know, John, let's start with you. Why did you want to be a coach? And then you've both you both did a summer session. Now I just gotta be honest. I gotta be honest.
Like I'm just not into the summer challenge. It's just not me. Like
Jim Johnson (02:04)
Yeah.
Rob Dayton (02:06)
I'm all over January two. I'm fully invested. And then when we get to the summer, I'm like, okay, so what
Jim Johnson (02:10)
Yeah.
Rob Dayton (02:11)
John, why what did you why is summer challenged? What was behind that?
John (02:16)
Well, I guess the the first thing is the first time. So I I went through last summer, but I didn't do the sixty-two-day challenge. We kinda went through it a little bit slower. But then in January did the full sixty-two-day challenge. And it was so good I wanted to do it again. So that was that was
Rob Dayton (02:30)
That's good.
John (02:30)
the first reason. The second reason is, you know, Jim and I, we both guide journey groups here in Santa Barbara. And so our journey group has a nine month period, and so it ends in May, and then we kind of have a summer session.
And we were talking, Steve Wagner, Jim, myself, a few others that have been through 100x life. Well, that this would be perfect. You know, as guys come out of the journey, you know, we really talk about self-feeding, which is our way of saying get into God's word for yourself. Don't rely on just other people to tell you what God's word says, you know, journal and listen to him. How what a better
Jim Johnson (03:02)
Mm-hmm.
John (03:02)
kind of tee up to launch into 100x life for a summer session. So that's what we decided to do.
Rob Dayton (03:09)
That that is so awesome. I'm so glad you did. Jim, what was your perspective on launching a summer session?
Jim Johnson (03:15)
Yeah, I've done a couple of summer sessions before, like with our church and some other things. but just like John said, it's a really great continuation for the journey group because our main focus for journey, as you heard last session with with Bob, was that it's all about abiding. So when we think about, you know, how do we live intentionally for the Lord? And we we journal, we think about how we can use scripture to, you know, what is that abiding relationship look like?
Like and when you say, well, abiting is so much about commands and how do we follow them and all of the things that 100x Life does, so it's such a natural tie-in for that. So it really was a good continuation for the guys. For a lot of the guys that have gone through journey as their very first time doing it, it was almost like like, I never really realized that this is the practical side of abiding.
on looking at each of the the words and commands of Jesus. So it was a natural continuation for us to do that and it worked well. So even though you know there's a lot fewer guys and as you say, summer can kind of be a hit and miss, you know, with with a challenge, a lot of the guys just jumped in and I think they learned a lot because it was like I said, it's like it's like the next level, the next stage of of what abiding really looks like. So it was it went well.
Rob Dayton (04:32)
I I like that phrase
you used, the practical side of abiding. Let let's surf that a little bit because I think that that actually could be valuable to us to have that conversation and for people who are listening. It just by way of background, and for those of you who don't understand the word abide, it it actually we get the word abode, it means to live in. And in John 14, Jesus is actually inviting
he says, I go prepare a place for you. And if I go prepare a place for you, I'll return and take you so that you will be where I am. And he's inviting them into living in God. And it turns out the Father's house is you. It's us.
John (05:10)
Come on.
Rob Dayton (05:10)
We are the Father's house. And so that place has been prepared. Yes, it's going to be an eternity, but it's it's now. And so the thing I love about the journey and the Influencers organization is they're heavy into hey.
John said it, self-feeding, you know, Jeremiah 31 in the new covenant, They'll be taught directly by God. This is our privilege to be taught directly by God. And then to do that in a way that we would actually dwell in the Father. We like to say in HunterX Life that you know, we're followers of Jesus because he's taking us somewhere. He's taking us on a journey, and that journey leads.
to the father's house. So John, like what is your thought about that? Do you do you agree with Jim that the that this is the practical side of abiding, or what other words would you give to that?
John (06:00)
Yeah, that's so good. You know, we were actually talking about this last night. We had our last meeting last night. So in Santa Barbara, you know, we we still met through the summer doing 100 x Life. So we met Tuesday morning, Wednesday night. So our Wednesday night group met last night for the final time. And we actually talked about this. We talked about, you know, what does it look like? And I kind of shared from my heart just about how I see this, you know, if if I am or I'd like to think of myself as a room in the father's house, you know, and Rob
Rob Dayton (06:27)
Yes.
John (06:28)
are
like right next to me down the hall and Jim is on the other side and Steve Wagner and so we're all in the in the father's house and I'm a room in the father's house. But is is my room a place where Holy Spirit likes to hang out
Like, is my life a place where he's comfortable? and that happens when I put Jesus' words into practice, when I'm walking in obedience. In other words, I'm not doing things that grieve him. I'm actually doing things that please him. In fact,
Rob Dayton (06:58)
Mm.
John (06:59)
I'm I'm putting into practice things where I need to be clothed with power. That's the kind of the context that came up in last night. We were finishing that word, be clothed with power from on high. Well
I don't really need to be clothed with power to sit on the couch. I need to be clothed in
Rob Dayton (07:14)
Wow.
John (07:15)
power when I am actually active putting his words into practice. Sometimes I like to say getting in trouble for Jesus, you know, taking a risk, sharing my faith, loving, maybe recklessly, giving gener whatever it is, I then it's that's when I need to be clothed with power. So I kind of think about, you know, putting his words into practice as a place of making my house, you know, my room in his house, a place where he likes to be.
Rob Dayton (07:39)
Wow. And and that, you know, that kind of fits. Like Jesus said, You obey my commands. I will love you. My father will love you, and we will come make our home with you. So there's that that has a scriptural connection. Forgetting the address. It's in John 14 in the middle.
John (07:56)
Yeah.
Rob Dayton (07:57)
and so wow, so Jim, like tell me more about this practical abiding. Because what I'm hearing from John is
You know, like be clothed with power, there's a practicality about it. I don't need power just to sit on the couch. I need power to actually do something I wasn't capable of ten minutes ago. It it's almost like the disciples pre the Holy Spirit moment in Acts two were kind of weaklings, afraid, and all of a sudden they're like I'm you know, super Jesus powers.
that's the practical side of Holy Spirit. What any other practical aspects that that come to mind with you and when we're doing a 100 x Life?
Jim Johnson (08:35)
yeah, sure. I mean, one of the things that I've really been digging into the last few years, and especially as you mentioned, going through the master's program, is we really think about as we get serious about really listening to the Holy Spirit and what we're doing with our lives and how are we going to have significance for the kingdom. And so much of that is deciding, well, is w how I'm spending my time, something that's going to have eternal consequences in the good sense of the thing. And I was just reading a book, it's an older book, but somebody had recommended it to me, and it so ties into
This whole concept of how do we practically live for Jesus? it's called Don't Waste Your Life by John Piper, and it's really about how do you long for your life to have eternal significance? And when you really think about if Jesus is going to have supremacy in all things in my life.
When you you almost by default have to look at all the commands that Jesus says, do this. You know, if you want to
Rob Dayton (09:31)
Wow, yeah.
Jim Johnson (09:32)
have the abundant life, if you want to really follow me, if you want to have significance, if you wanna if you want me to be supreme in all areas of your life, then you need to follow what I tell you to do. Because one of the things that I love about the end of John 15, you know, we talk about abiding and everything else, but in the you know, kind of toward the the latter part of that chapter, it really talks
Talks
about, I tell you all those all these things so that you can be joyful, so that my joy can be in you. And so, you know, so often we think about you know obeying or discipline as kind of a drudgery or something like that. But the whole point of having eternal significance, the whole point of Jesus having supremacy is that you get joy out of it.
Rob Dayton (10:17)
Wow.
Jim Johnson (10:17)
So it's not a burden, and it's so important for.
Us to change our mindsets and change the way we think about the actual daily practice of like, this is an opportunity for me to maybe fail, but taking one more step to practicing a word of Jesus a little bit better. So I get to enjoy his joy a little bit better because every time I do that, I am in step with what the Spirit wants me to do. Because if Jesus says do it, the Holy Spirit's
is to help me to do those things. So that's kind of been my framework in the last because I've been through these this many times and there's always another layer. And you know one of the things
Rob Dayton (10:57)
Let's let's talk about I want to talk about that,
but I before we get too far away, I think that that was really what you said, super practical abiding, is that just this one thought that
You know, my my yoke is easy, my burden is light. Jesus is saying, I'm not giving you these commands to be a cosmic killjoy or to be someone that is trying to get you to sacrifice. We might think of not sinning as sacrifice, but he thinks of not sinning or actually abiding in the words of Jesus as the abundant life. Like denying yourself is actually the best thing for your body, it's the best thing for your health, it's the best thing for your well being. Like he's the desire.
designer
and so I think what I hear you saying Jim is that practical abiding is just simply understanding that Jesus following is the best life possible. we're not sacrificing something big we're not missing out on this life.
Jim Johnson (11:51)
Yes.
Rob Dayton (11:51)
It's just I just I love that you brought that up. John, do you what are you noticing like you've been you've done this now twice. Is this twice or three times for you 100x life the challenge.
John (12:02)
Three times.
Two times through the challenge, three times through the book. Okay.
Rob Dayton (12:05)
Okay. And what are you noticing
this time around? Because this is kind of an interesting thing. It's a daily practice. I think the challenge for everyone, me included, is that we we can get, we can say, okay, I've heard this word before. You know, like it I've I you know, this is not a new thought.
And I love what John Jim was about to go to. Well, there's always a new layer. What what is your thought on what did you notice about this journey for you? What switched? What changed?
John (12:35)
Well, I totally agree. you know, I was joking with the folks last night, you know, I said I don't check many of the right box, you know, the full reproducing box just 'cause I'm I'm a little hard on myself. But I said,
Rob Dayton (12:46)
This is on the the 100 x life assessment.
John (12:48)
Yeah, the 100 x life assessment, right? The reproducing box. But even if I did, there's more room to go to the right. Like I I don't know that any of us have really fully arrived, right, in fully implementing the Word of Jesus. That's the way
You know, d his word unfolds, there are deeper levels, deeper levels of commitment, and and obedience, deeper tests that probably come as we put his words into practice. So I I don't think, you know, in Journey we talk about abiding, we use this metaphor of called the inner chamber, this kind of place of intimacy with Christ. And we kind of say in our group, you know, there's no back wall to the inner chamber. In other words,
Rob Dayton (13:25)
Wow.
John (13:25)
In other words, intimacy with the Father continues to grow. You never arrive. You just continue to pursue and and he opens your mind and your heart and you can experience more of him. And so th it's the same with the words of Jesus, I think. I I I don't
I could go through the book and I might for the rest of my life and I'll and I'll they'll always be more. There'll always be more. There's another layer of surrender that's waiting for me. you know, as we're talking about denying ourselves, when you think about denying yourself, what we're really talking about is denying your flesh, right? Right.
Rob Dayton (13:56)
Right.
John (13:56)
And that's why it's not burdensome because our flesh is just the old man that's hanging on, right? And and so denying him is not burdensome. It actually frees my spirit to live the way Jesus created me, God created me to live.
talk about God's word, it's really the operating manual for how to live the abundant life. And so putting his words into practice, it's like that's the way he designed me to actually live to the full. When I'm not living it, I'm sort of running outside of the parameters of the operating manual. And then you know it's no wonder when you break down, why? Right? It's like, well, I'm I'm not following his instructions.
Rob Dayton (14:29)
It's so crazy
because that is like I don't know if you're noticing this. I mean, I I have an entire business in coaching cities. And so we have to talk about these type of things. Like truth is truth. And we have to move forward in what's gonna make you the most healthy. And I don't think you I don't have you noticed this. Like even the CNN article recently is talking about how important forgiveness is for your health.
And like the all these other things that Jesus has already recommended that are perfect for your body, that actually are not sacrifices that actually invite you into a state of well-being. I think the church needs to be careful and watch out because the world is catching up with truth and it's actually, you know, we're hearing the science again and again and again that the word of God and what he's saying, these practices, this practical abiding, is actually good for your health. Jim, how does
How does that strike you? Do you do you have like a thought about that?
Jim Johnson (15:24)
Absolutely. And it's interesting that you say that because I listen to a lot of business podcasts and you know sometimes you have a a counseling or a psychological podcast and the discovery is just that, right? It's the exact same thing. One of the things that I love so much about the 100 x life process is and when we were, you know, going through Masters Group is that
when we go to church or even when we open the scripture, and just like you mentioned previously, hey, it's like I've been through this word before. I know
Rob Dayton (15:52)
I've heard that.
Jim Johnson (15:52)
what I know what this means. I've heard this. And as soon as we allow our brains to go there, then it turns off. Then
Rob Dayton (16:00)
Click.
Jim Johnson (16:01)
we go in there, it's like, well, I know what this passage is, so I don't really need to think about what the pastor's saying, or I've read this before, so I don't really need to ask the Holy Spirit how.
you know, I need to practice this. And that's really dangerous because, you know, on all of the
Rob Dayton (16:17)
It's dangerous.
Jim Johnson (16:18)
psychological side of things, it's like, we're discovering that if you forgive people or if you hold a grudge, that this not only has, you know, you know, psychological aspects, but physical aspects. And it changes your
Rob Dayton (16:31)
Bad for your body.
Jim Johnson (16:32)
actual chemistry in your brain. And it's like, wow, go
Rob Dayton (16:34)
It does.
Jim Johnson (16:35)
figure that, you know, when you you think negative thoughts or you're always doing those things.
That you, your actions and your emotions and your thoughts kind of follow suit. So, in the same kind of way, if we think, I've already heard this word, then of course I'm never gonna go any deeper. Of course, I'm never not, I'm not gonna learn anything more. I'm not gonna be open to listening to what the Holy Spirit might say and say, Yeah, I've done this before, you know, but I have something more for you on this word
Rob Dayton (17:03)
Yes.
Jim Johnson (17:04)
because you don't understand it, because you're in a new spot of life, or the other thing that is really helpful.
for
me is realizing that you know God is always taking me to a different spot to prepare me for something in the future that I don't even know is coming. So yeah.
Rob Dayton (17:17)
that's that's perfect. Let's talk about that because I think that that's
perfect.
and you know what we're dealing with is the conundrum and and both you and John and you Jim are saying it is that you know you you have this daily practice, it can get old, it's can get tired. And I think what you said, John, is that there's always an upgrade. There's not a back there's not a back wall to the to the intimacy with the father. It's it's forever. And what I heard from you, Jim, is it's like the destination is the process. Like we're we're not going somewhere, we're actually in the process of growing. And I want you guys to like, cause I
I think there's there could be a new framing for
This story of God, this story of creation that would really be instrumental for what we're talking about and in helping men and women really keep going, to keep striving, to never ever feel like they're reaching, but always growing. And you probably you might have heard me say it on the podcast, but I'm just really I I can't stop thinking or writing about this thought that all of creation is designed.
To invite us to choose love as people who are created in the image of God that have the power to choose, to choose love and to exercise love. And so, so give let me give you a what if. What if this thing called eternity had a few short years on the beginning, let's call it 80 years, whatever, of human life. And that's the training
ground for love. This life.
The reason we go to work, the reason we get married, the reason we have kids, the reason relationships matter, the reason we go and hang out with the the body of Christ at that thing, that Sunday experience called church, the reason why we give, all the reasons, the reasons why we want to practice the behaviors of love, which are the words of Jesus, is all designed to continually grow our capability to love.
What what do you think, John? Is that does that help you? Does that frame it? Would you push back on that? Is it connected to 100x life? are your thoughts?
John (19:23)
Well, it's definitely connected to 100 x life. It's you know, if I think about, you know, Jesus and and his purpose for coming, right, was to connect us with the Father's love.
Rob Dayton (19:33)
Come on.
John (19:34)
You express that, share that love with other people. Right? Love the Lord, it's the commandments too, right? Love the Lord your God, whether your heart, soul, mind, and strength, love your neighbor, right? So that that's the expression. It's the expression
Rob Dayton (19:44)
The verb is love in both.
John (19:46)
of it. I absolutely.
so I I think it's a 100 percent grounded in truth. I I love you know I I I I agree with what I hear you saying, you know, often is is that king the kingdom expressing the kingdom is the language of love. Right. That
Rob Dayton (20:01)
Come on.
John (20:02)
that that's when we're we're we're living in his we're walking in his ways is when we're expressing love to others. So yeah, I it resonates with me.
Rob Dayton (20:12)
So good.
Jim, what are your thoughts on that?
Jim Johnson (20:15)
Well, one of the things that comes to mind is that, you know, when you think about Christ, you know, Jesus comes to earth, he experiences all the things that we experience, he goes through hard things, he uses that to connect with the Father and the Spirit, and he also, you know, he goes through his whole life dealing with that. And one of the most profound concepts that keeps coming up, you know, when I go through every time I go through Hundred x life and think about this in longer term is that
You know, the Trinity, Father, Son, Holy Spirit.
They are infinite, eternal beings, so we will never tap out on what we can learn to
Rob Dayton (20:54)
Right.
Jim Johnson (20:55)
how we can love them. So this life is just a practice for all of those areas of how we learn to love better. So why not get started now? You know, we're
Rob Dayton (21:05)
Yes.
Jim Johnson (21:06)
we're always going to be learning more and more. We're not going to get to heaven and be bored because, like, we finally got to the destination.
Rob Dayton (21:13)
Right, right.
Jim Johnson (21:14)
If God is defined by love,
If there is an infinite number of things that I can understand and learn about his character, if there's an infinite number of things that I can understand on the depth of beauty or creation or relationships or everything else, this is just the starting ground for
Rob Dayton (21:30)
Yeah.
Jim Johnson (21:30)
what we're going to enjoy even a million fold once we don't have the challenges of this world and we're remade and and you know sin is no longer going to be a problem. So, like if I can
frame my thinking about that then it's like hey I just have a head start why not continue to enjoy that because that's gonna go on forever you know because if I'm unpracticed in it now it just feels like well it's just gonna take me longer to enjoy that in you
Rob Dayton (22:02)
Yeah.
Jim Johnson (22:03)
know in my whole life now so anyway that's just a good way for me to frame it to think like
Rob Dayton (22:07)
I I love that. I don't I don't
know if you've heard, you know, Chad Erlinborn said it on the podcast and and it and I I brought it up a couple of times. It just makes me think is he was he was imagining the only thing we t bring to heaven really is our capability of love. Yeah,
Jim Johnson (22:20)
It is love. Yeah. Yeah.
Rob Dayton (22:22)
and I just like that just so resonates. And I know, I know I say this a lot, but Imagine Heaven, guys, if you haven't read it, have have you guys been reading Imagine Heaven yet? So Jim's
Jim Johnson (22:31)
I I've read it, yeah.
Rob Dayton (22:32)
okay, I I actually have it. I'm I'm actually think I'm on my third or fourth time.
Only because this is all just for people who don't know This is a good copilation of the near-death experiences, people who died and they went to heaven or hell and they came back to tell us about the experience. I call it the science of heaven, and I can't get it out of my head. I can't get enough. I was listening to in the gym just yesterday about this woman describing how she knew, like, you know, some of the I think from Ezekiel that Jesus' eyes are
fire and and his and his is looking like flint and he's just he's just glowing in white, you know, and then you get the near-death experience lady who's like, yeah, that's true. Let me tell you a little bit
John (23:16)
Like yeah, that's
Rob Dayton (23:18)
more. Like the colors in his eyes are just they're moving. It's like topaz, it's like it's like changing colors. And then what she says, this is the part I'm always longing to hear. And I it just I'm it's just like I hear it. It's starting to get cemented in my mindset about heaven.
And his eyes were emanating love. His body was emanating love. Everything about everything he said was love. And then it was bouncing off me, and love was emanating from me. Like it's clear from these NDA experien, these near-death experiences, people who've had this, that heaven is just all about experiencing love and experiencing God in the fullest extent. That's just
That gives me what you said of Jim is like we're gonna keep learning for this and then you know Chad Erlenborn saying, hey, well we're gonna the only thing you could take to heaven is love. And then it just makes it so obvious when we get there. Guys, I
I'm even like wondering, like if any of the stuff I do, like if even a 100 x life, like in the conversation with Jesus, that was really good, 100x life, really good, Rob, you you know, I don't think so. I think the emphasis is gonna be so that guy in the grocery store, Rob, or that guy, you know, what did you do to love that guy on the street, or what did you do to love that boss? I think that that's gonna be the predominant conversation.
John, when you reflect upon the behaviors of love, 100x life, and just that thought that it's the interactions, does that connect with the words of Jesus for you? Does that make sense to you? Does that feel like a life mission is to is to love through those those ways that he teaches us?
John (24:58)
Yeah, absolutely. I think it all many of the words are just plainly rooted in love, right? You you you forgive people out of love. Right. That's that's the motivation to do it. You don't feel like it necessarily, right? but you do it out of out of love. You do it out of love for Jesus, you do it because you've been forgiven and you do it because maybe you've changed the way that you see people, and you see them as image bearers that you can love.
So I I think many, many of the commands of Jesus and and Hunter x life are founded and rooted in love. Yeah, they're expressions of love.
Rob Dayton (25:35)
Yeah, and then when you do yeah, like I love what you're saying, you may not want to do them, but then when you do them, there's such a freedom, least in my experience, like the process of forgiving someone. Or in order to get to loving your enemy, there has to be a a profound amount of change of mindset. There has to be forgiveness, and then there also has to be a change of mindset about who that person is, really.
th they are not the sum of their behaviors. They are their image bearers of God. And but the freedom that comes when you actually implement and get ri you know, re reproduce that word in your life go ahead.
Jim Johnson (26:07)
Yeah.
Yeah, another thing that I want to throw in there as you were talking about is like, you know, when we think about love in, you know, now and in the internal sense, love is is about relationship. So it's about how we connect not only with people around us, but with the Trinity. And one of the things I love about being a coach is not because it's easy, you know. And I
Every time I think about it it's like, you know, this is gonna take some work, it's gonna be a little bit hard, but
Inevitably, every time I go through this, I'm encouraged. Because
Rob Dayton (26:39)
Come on.
Jim Johnson (26:40)
when you go through this in community and you challenge one another and you hear different concepts or different ways that somebody is learning something, that is always encouraged. That's always encouraging.
Rob Dayton (26:51)
Mm.
Jim Johnson (26:52)
And it it continues to teach us that we do this, we love properly when we are practicing
Rob Dayton (26:59)
Mm-hmm.
Jim Johnson (27:00)
those words with other people and getting more information.
on how to do that practically. You know, I think one of the greatest
Rob Dayton (27:06)
So good.
Jim Johnson (27:07)
things about being a coach is that it keeps me accountable. You
Rob Dayton (27:09)
Yeah.
Jim Johnson (27:10)
know?
In you know, it's like you hear the old adage like, well, if you want to really teach something, you know, you you you need to you know go through it yourself and explain it to people and do that kind of thing. But so much of that is that it engages my mind more. It engages
Rob Dayton (27:23)
Yeah, that's right.
Jim Johnson (27:25)
everything about me more. Like if there's a little bit of responsibility, like, hey, I I want to bring something to this challenge. I want to bring something to this relationship.
Rob Dayton (27:32)
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Jim Johnson (27:35)
I want to bring something that's in cur gonna be encouraging John or some of the other guys in the group.
or whatever, that that pushes me in all the right directions. Yes.
Rob Dayton (27:42)
It's a motivation. It's a motivation.
And f like for me, I like I I can't I can't do the pretend thing. So if I'm the purveyor, I better be like out front demonstrating. And so that's a motivation for me always has been to coach to put me in a position where I have to
be really tuned in finding a higher level. John, y you know, you're a you're a coach in the Influencers leadership, in my experience, highly influential.
the role in Bakersfield that Bob Johnson was talking about and bringing you in and such a wonderful story and and now doing a 100 x life, what are you noticing about your coachability or coachability for men and and how it's growing? We how would you describe that?
John (28:29)
Well, I I think, you know, in in journey we we use the term guide. and it's very intentional as opposed to a a leader, you know.
Rob Dayton (28:40)
Right.
John (28:40)
A guide is someone who is on the journey with people, right? They're
Rob Dayton (28:45)
Come on.
John (28:45)
they're showing them the way. They're not pointing and say, You go there, this is the way to go and have it enjoy. The guide a guide is with you on the trip.
And so I think for a coach in Hundred x Life, a guide in journey, I think the the power in it and the effectiveness comes and you we talk about this in Hundred x Life, right? Is
You you learn to be transformed, right? You read God's word to be transformed, not to teach. And so it's the same with journey, same with 100x life. The transformation happens to me, and sharing that with others is
Rob Dayton (29:21)
Mm.
John (29:21)
in my way. That's that's my way of of coaching or guiding. I mean, Jim will say that I I do love to teach now and then. I get passionate about God's word. I do
Rob Dayton (29:29)
Yes you do. I love it when you do.
Jim Johnson (29:30)
Yeah.
John (29:31)
I get passionate about God's word, but I hope.
That it's coming from a place of how it's applying to me, how these truths are applying to me, how I'm experiencing them, how the spirit of wisdom and revelation is making them fresh and new to me, and then sharing that with others. So that's I I hope that's the way that I guide and coach is mostly by sharing how I am being transformed and that the power of that. And others can see that, and that would be an encouragement.
Rob Dayton (30:01)
And I haven't been on your Zoom calls, but is that kind of what's happening, would you say? Jim, would you is that what's happening? Your is it is it a Q and A? Is it maybe even talking about something you transformed in? What how does what does that look like?
Jim Johnson (30:15)
are you talking about like for how we be a guide and and coach along this process? Is that what you're saying?
Rob Dayton (30:19)
Well, I I don't
know, as it occurs to me, you know, I was on the telegram channel kind of watching your groups and praying for them and I think that there was s like a weekly Zoom call. Was that wow, okay.
Jim Johnson (30:31)
Well we meet in person. So one of the things
yeah, so one of the things that we found was really helpful is that you know, we interact on the telegram channel, but there is something vibrantly important about meeting once a week and just sh going through the five or six words, you know, before we've you met before. Because trying to do that via Zoom or trying to do that in the in the telegram channel, sometimes people can be a little reticent to do that. But in
Person, people are ready to do that. So, anybody,
Rob Dayton (31:00)
Mm-hmm.
Jim Johnson (31:01)
so my two encouragements for anybody listening is that you don't have to have it all together to be a coach. You know it. It's it's something like you're on this journey together, you're going through these words of Jesus together. Nobody has all of the words you know reproducing together. So everybody's gonna be in a different phase for the different words. So we all have something to learn as we're guiding each other, and you know, coaches almost kind of
Of a weird term because it's like, hey, I'm just on this journey together with you, right? And so, but meeting together, again, when we when we come, there's something that's transformative because one, it's relational, right?
Rob Dayton (31:37)
Yeah.
Jim Johnson (31:38)
It's different interacting when you're in person than when you're on a screen. So, even you know, we found like, and I'm gonna do this for all you know future coaching sessions with my church or however we're gonna do that with 100x. We're just gonna say, like, hey, we're gonna do the telegram channel, but we're gonna meet once a week. Here it is, hopefully you
Rob Dayton (31:55)
I love
Jim Johnson (31:55)
come,
Rob Dayton (31:55)
that.
Jim Johnson (31:55)
you know, as many times. And as long as just people are coming to say, like, hey, this is what I'm learning. It doesn't have
Rob Dayton (32:00)
I love that.
Jim Johnson (32:01)
to be as profound, it doesn't have to be like, the you know, flowery or whatever. We can all be encouraged by how somebody is progressing and maturing in the relationship with the Trinity. So that's what it's all about, because that
Rob Dayton (32:12)
So cool.
Jim Johnson (32:13)
that's why we're in community together.
Rob Dayton (32:16)
Yeah, and it's kind of like
what John said, and you know, this is also what I think about HunterX Life as being a coach is that you're the requirement is A, you've been through the challenge
once.
And then B, you're transparent about your shortcomings, which means you're a guide, which means you're you're in the journey with everyone else. you know, you may be a little ahead, or you may have more experience in failing and succeeding, but you're you know you're you're in it. and like John said, you we s we study the word of God, we we hang out with Jesus, with Papa to be transformed, and then we teach out.
of that transformed life as a witness that is truly handing someone fruit, John.
John (32:57)
So yeah, just to clarify, so I kind of double dipped this summer, right? I was with Steve and Jim
Rob Dayton (33:02)
Tell us about that.
John (33:03)
here. It was J Steve and Jim here in Santa Barbara, right? And we met Tuesday morning and Wednesday night. But I really wanted to introduce this to my guys, my brothers in Bakersfield.
Rob Dayton (33:14)
Wow.
John (33:14)
I lived in Bakersfield for eight years, eight, nine years from 2010 to 2018. God used that time powerfully in my life. That's where I got introduced to Journey.
So now I'm 100x Life and I want to introduce that to my brothers. So so we had this summer almost 50 people go through 100x Life in Bakersfield. That and we did do a Zoom call
Rob Dayton (33:34)
Wow.
John (33:34)
on Tuesday at lunch. And then one of my brothers did meet with a group, Dan Bartell, with a group in Bakersfield. They're still meeting, and it's been rich, you know, over there. So we did.
Rob Dayton (33:45)
What are you noticing?
Like what are you noticing is happening?
John (33:49)
Well, the same thing you notice everywhere is if we take God's word seriously and apply it to our lives, we will change.
Rob Dayton (33:57)
Who knew cried?
John (33:58)
He will transform us, you know, and that that's what we joke about in journey, right? Is we invite people to journey. We say, listen, our theme verse is is John 15:5. If you remain if a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit, right? Apart from me, you can do nothing. It doesn't say you might bear fruit. It doesn't say you should bear fruit, it says you will.
Rob Dayton (34:18)
Fruit
that will last.
John (34:19)
We t that's right. Fruit that will last, fruit that brings glory to God. And so we talk about, listen guys, here's the deal. It's not my guarantee, but you will change if you do this. Because doing it means you're going to apply God's word to your
Rob Dayton (34:31)
Mm-hmm.
John (34:31)
life. You'll change. It will happen. We will be transformed to look more like Jesus. And so that's what I see happening. And and and of course it's in different degrees and people are in different seasons of life and all of that.
But but you're seeing great things. You're seeing some physical transformation. You're seeing spiritual transformation. You're seeing
Rob Dayton (34:49)
Yes.
John (34:49)
people get excited about God's word and the fellowship of the body of Christ as as we journey together.
Rob Dayton (34:56)
man, that's so cool.
So you've you're both 100x life coaches working through this, guides, whatever you want to call it. Seriously, it is really what it is. Some people might say, well, I'm more of a 100X life facilitator. It you know, whatever your whatever your talent, whatever your your strengths are, you know, that's how you show up. But like how hard was it to get a group and get that going? Can you can you give us some practical aspects of like how do you
actually do this challenge thing and have it work out for the kind of transformation I'm hearing about? Jim, what what are your thoughts and then John?
Jim Johnson (35:35)
One of the things that I have found is that one, I always have to
it's so easy for us to think about numbers, right? It's really cool to think like, my gosh, you got 50 people from Bakersfield or whatever, whatever, you know, or we've got, you know,
Rob Dayton (35:46)
It's true. It's it's thrilling.
Jim Johnson (35:48)
you know, that's fantastic. But you know, I've also done groups with 100x life for with five or six guys. And we have to just remember that no matter how many people go through it, if one person is changed and is what if one person looks at their relationship with the Trinity in a more positive way and they
Understand that that's a win. It doesn't care if it doesn't matter if it's one guy or if it's 20 guys. And
Rob Dayton (36:13)
Mm-hmm.
Jim Johnson (36:14)
so really I think what it just comes down to is one, how do you present it? One of the things I find is, and we've talked about this a little bit, you know, Rob, previously, is some people's like, I just really, I really can't do the whole physical thing. And so people
Rob Dayton (36:26)
Two forty five
minute workouts, one outside, come on.
Jim Johnson (36:30)
Yes, so many people get so focused on the physical side of things. And I I whenever I invite somebody to go, I say, look, this is really about spiritual transformation.
Rob Dayton (36:40)
Yeah.
Jim Johnson (36:40)
The physical side is
just a good vehicle to help you along that road. So let's not get doggedly stupid about, you know, if, hey, if if you fall off the wagon a little bit, let's just jump back on. You know, hey, if you've got some other limitations where maybe you can't do one of the things.
Because of physical things or medical things or whatever, doesn't matter. The point is, like, are we saying how do we say yes to the things that are hard?
Rob Dayton (37:08)
Yeah.
Jim Johnson (37:08)
How can we tell our body no? It's such a great, you know. I love to think about 100x life in whatever physical capacity and spiritual capacity, because we're doing the same thing. It's just that our bodies are it's so front and center that
Rob Dayton (37:23)
Yes.
Jim Johnson (37:23)
it helps us with the spiritual side of saying yes or no in those.
Those hard capacities. And I love to think about it as every time I am doing one of those things, I'm casting a vote for the type of man that I want to be.
Rob Dayton (37:37)
Come on.
Jim Johnson (37:38)
And even though I may not, you know, always live up to my personal expectations,
Rob Dayton (37:43)
Yeah.
Jim Johnson (37:44)
it is good for me to realize, like, hey, you know what? I got I got out there, and maybe the workout didn't feel as great as it did, or maybe I didn't get to do the whole thing, or maybe whatever it was, it's like, but you know what?
I casted it another vote. And
Rob Dayton (37:58)
Yes.
Jim Johnson (37:58)
when I cast fifteen thousand of those votes over years and years and years, I am only going to get closer to Jesus when I do that. So
Rob Dayton (38:07)
Well, and you're gonna and your flesh is
gonna be more automatically geared toward love. And I've heard John Van Lenten say
Recently, maybe that he when he's working out, now he's got a whole mind frame now about working out that it's actually I am actually conquering the flesh, which is gonna give me a higher capacity of love. And that you know, that is why we have the challenge is
Jim Johnson (38:29)
Mm-hmm.
Rob Dayton (38:29)
you know, Paul says, I love his phraseology, for the mindset on the flesh is death, the mindset on the spirit is life. And and so I look at the that as the triune being. That's the perfect picture of the triune being. It's
Body, mind, soul, spirit, or or body, soul, spirit, the soul being the mind, will and emotions, flesh being the brain, spirit seated in heavenly places currently. So where is your mind focused? Is your mind gonna be focused on the spirit or your mind gonna be focused on what the body is telling you to do? so John, that exercise is actually intentional.
to reprogram the brain and get it used to being ordered by the mind so that the so the mind can hand the authority over to the spirit to lead. Did you see that in play this last time in with the guys like for instance in Bakersfield and the whole workout versus following? Like how did that manifest in the way you noticed it?
John (39:24)
Yeah, I I I you know, I I can't say f how it worked for everybody, but it's an inten it it it that can happen if you focus that way. It takes an intentionality. It takes a my y you have to actually be in the mode of training your mind while you're doing it and say, I'm going to, for me, pedal up this hill, even though I my legs do not want to, my legs don't want to, I'm doing it and I'm training to follow Jesus.
I and but you have to actually do that. Now I could pedal up the hill and just do it.
Rob Dayton (39:56)
Isn't isn't that like pause
right there? Isn't that insane? Like that you can equ you can equate that and and and can you make an argument for the people who are listening like, wait a minute, wait a minute. You're pedaling uphill, you're telling your your flesh wants to stop and you override and say, No, we're doing this. That's the following Jesus muscle. Can you explain that a little bit more?
John (40:19)
Well, it's like like Jim said, right, it's doing hard things. Following Jesus is not easy. It goes against my flesh, right? My flesh is there, even though it's dead. It it's still it's still hanging on, right? And I tend to you can breathe life into it and it has has more more activity than you'd like. So when when you're pedaling up up a up a hill, right, you're out or whatever you're doing, right, you're exercising. If you are doing it with the mindset of I am taking
My I'm allowing my mind to have dominion over my body. And then that's under the spirit ultimately. And so I'm training for this hierarchy of authority in my life. And if I choose to do if I choose to l to think that way while I'm doing physical training, it can have spiritual benefits because it's the same discipline that denying yourself muscle, right? One of the
One of the commands of Jesus, if anyone who come after me must deny himself, take up his cross tail and follow me. So if you practice denying yourself, either saying yes when your body wants to say no or no when it wants to say yes, you're building that that discipline. when you can and you can employ that, whether you're trying to resist sin, say no to sin, or yes to following Jesus, it's the same type of discipline.
Rob Dayton (41:36)
Wow. It's it's so cool. And then as you're talking, I'm thinking self-control, you know, the most overlooked fruit of the spirit. You know, and denying yourself. I love how you're you're you're directly relating that to deny the flesh.
And just saying, hey, no, we're not doing this. And and I love the thought that these are nonsense issues. Pedaling up a hill is a nonsense issue. You know, like I was on the treadmill today, you know, doing four miles, and I was on the treadmill because organs burning and and and the air quality
Jim Johnson (42:08)
Right.
Rob Dayton (42:09)
would kill me if I was outside. But you know, I'm like, I'm just looking, there's nothing really to look at, so I can't get distracted by God's beauty. I'm just looking at a wall, and I'm just looking at the time. I'm like,
Okay, you know, one mile down. And then my body's like, No, no, no, no, no, and I'm like
Hey, we're doing this. We're getting to halfway. And then when we got to halfway, I'm like, yeah, I think we'll go the whole way, body. You know, it's just like, it's almost like celebrating. It's a nonsense issue. You're celebrating this ability, this, this you're exercising and increasing your ability to say no or yes to the body for the privilege of saying yes or no when Jesus wants you to do something and the body doesn't want to go. That's crazy
Jim Johnson (42:50)
Well and the other
Rob Dayton (42:51)
to me.
Jim Johnson (42:52)
I think that's that's such a great point because the other side of that which we often forget and I need to be reminded of it all the time is that one of the things that I think has been a theme throughout the years too is like we do these things and we practice doing hard things and telling our body no and having the mindset of like this is gonna help me when the sin issues come. But I think another thing that always needs to be said is like we do it this way because we do the hard things with
The
stakes are really low. And the more times we get to practice when the stakes are low, then we've built up that muscle and we're much more ready for when the much harder things come. If we never practice when the stakes are low,
Rob Dayton (43:33)
If you're not exercising
Jim Johnson (43:34)
then when something happens big in our life, like maybe there's a death. I mean, there was just a friend of mine, you know, that hey, there was a medical issue and it was scary.
And if you've never practiced on how what does my faith look like when hard things come in my life, then that
Rob Dayton (43:49)
Mm-hmm.
Jim Johnson (43:50)
can break you. That can change everything. But if we're practicing like pedaling up a hill or doing those things when the stakes are low, then you're ready and God can use those things in
Rob Dayton (43:59)
That's right.
Jim Johnson (44:00)
such a more profound way in my life than if I've never done that. So anyway, I always love to say that because one, I need to hear it. So, and I hope that's encouraging to others because that's why we do this. It's not just because we want better bodies.
It's not because we just want to be more healthy. It's like that's the practice of the low. Yeah, well, yeah,
Rob Dayton (44:16)
It's nice to have a a a better body too.
Jim Johnson (44:20)
yeah, yeah. We're all a little vain sometimes there. I get that.
Rob Dayton (44:23)
Well well I love
the fact that medically if you you know, my goal is to to live the the the time that d
John (44:29)
Time.
Rob Dayton (44:29)
not cut short the time God has for me. So be as healthy as possible for that. But the fact that we need more muscle as we get older, I'm enjoying that, you know, aspect of it.
I love this conversation. So tell me guys, and John, let's start with you. Okay,
so what would you say to someone who's thinking, you know, they they've been through the Hundred Ice Life Challenge, maybe they've done it a couple times, and they're not sure about this coaching thing. What would what would you tell what would you say to them?
John (44:57)
I mean coaching is it I don't think I did a great job coaching this year. You know, the Bakersfield folks, you know, the telegram thing, as you know, Rob, is not my not my thing. My phone, I don't have it with me half.
Rob Dayton (45:08)
Right.
John (45:08)
I started out with a bang posting a lot and then it kind of waned 'cause it's just not natural to me. So I would say,
Rob Dayton (45:13)
Yeah, it's not your thing.
John (45:14)
you know, the thing with coaching is it's about bringing a few people on. I completely agree with Jim. A smaller group I think is better.
Rob Dayton (45:22)
Mm-hmm.
John (45:23)
Happened this year, you you asked earlier about how hard was it to gather a group. It was not hard. People heard about it and they started inviting their friends and they're like, hey John, can this person come? Can this person come?
Rob Dayton (45:33)
Crazy.
John (45:34)
I didn't plan to have you know 50 people in Bakersfield. I wanted like 10 or 12, you know. because I think there's there's real power in that, you know, in a smaller community where it's people you know.
Rob Dayton (45:47)
Yeah.
John (45:47)
For a coach is thinking about it, just gather a few friends or family members even and and just say, Hey, let's do this together. let's just do it together. You don't as a coach have to have all the answers. You don't have to do it perfectly. You just
encourage right you you you you get some people to go with you and you encourage them and it's so easy Rob you know I you've set it up beautifully the podcasts are powerful I think they're a great companion so it's not like you you as the coach have to have you know all the words there's all the resources are there in the book
Course the Word of God, Holy Spirit
Rob Dayton (46:23)
Come on.
John (46:24)
and the podcast, you don't need to do much. He'll do the all of the heavy lifting. All you gotta do is get started and get some people with you know on the bus with you and it will happen you know, as people just get into the word and hear Holy Spirit and and the podcast, hear other people, you know, being encouraged and challenged. It's it's just a great thing.
Rob Dayton (46:45)
That is so
cool. And then we, you know, we just introduced the coaching platform on the website, which we're building all the time. We're gonna be adding
Jim Johnson (46:52)
Mm.
Rob Dayton (46:53)
a lot of training videos on there. We're gonna be adding monthly coaching meetings of encouragement. Jim, you signed up through the through the coaching channel, and one of the things that we have in there that people might not know about, and I want to I'm curious about how you used it, is you actually get to set the date for the challenge.
Jim Johnson (47:11)
Yeah.
Rob Dayton (47:11)
So you actually you could set a a a date for any 62-day challenge to begin on any date and then you get a link to invite your people to that and then once that date starts it's all automated. Tell us about that journey.
Jim Johnson (47:26)
Yeah.
That part was great because that was one of the challenges is that, you know, if you know everybody knows that the January 2nd start is is that that's a that's a good one. And people are, you know, always wanting a New Year's resolution resolution to think about it differently. But that was super helpful because, you know, especially when you're starting in the summer and there's different start dates of here and here, and even if you're starting in January, you know, one of the things that was hard is like, well, what happens if you didn't get everybody together during Christmas and January 2nd's too hard?
Hey, if you start on the fourth, it doesn't matter, you know? And so that part of the coaching,
Rob Dayton (48:00)
You choose.
Jim Johnson (48:01)
yeah, you choose is so great. and the other thing that I would say about anybody thinking about being a coach is it was helpful for me to think about because I did it for the first time with our church, and I didn't know how many people you know were gonna come in, but I looked at it as a long-term play, just like everything that we do
Rob Dayton (48:16)
Mm.
Jim Johnson (48:17)
in our spiritual development. It's like, you know what?
If I only get five or ten people to go through, you know what? They're gonna go through and I know that they're going to be transformed with it. And they're gonna tell other people, and next year I'm gonna get more people to come along. Because as soon as you get a core group, then everybody's gonna say, like, I need to go through that again, and I'll bring somebody else along. So the point is, is like just jump in and do it. Like John said, you don't have to be perfect. You don't have to have all of these other things. The resources are there, and the whole point is.
If you want to grow in your faith, jump in as a coach. That's the best way for you to do it. You know, it's really helpful. Yeah.
Rob Dayton (48:53)
It's the best way to grow. Come on. I
I love that. And then and then John, I'll I'll just give you some hope about apps and stuff like that. Is that Tom Labans, who's an all-star T MP, San Luis Bispo, I mean, love the guy.
He went out and built an app for 100 x Life. So we're finalizing that app and and that app will have all the communications. It'll have you'll be able to, you know, check the boxes on every one of your things. It'll all everything goes through that. The emails kinda go away. Everything goes to the app. So if you're if you're in the app, the emails go away and it's just the ev ever all the messaging comes through the app. so it's gonna be
Jim Johnson (49:34)
That'll be cool.
Rob Dayton (49:35)
and they'll even be a co a coach's
Section that is just accessible by coaches. So we're really excited about that. And guys, I'm just I'm just thrilled. I, you know, as you know, my heart is, and it's something we touched on in this, is like all my life, and I'm sure you can relate to this, is as evangelists, people who want to introduce people to Jesus.
And get them to say yes to Jesus. I mean, all about that. I know Jesus film is probably the best investment for that. I think it's I think they're down to like eight dollars of salvation. If you get you know, that's how I've always looked at it. Is like, where's my money gonna go the furthest? And one of the things I've noticed as I've grown in this process and watching people like you guys proliferate the words of Jesus.
Is that transformation is so is such a bigger lift than saying yes to Jesus. It's just like, you know, saying yes to Jesus is easy. Following is is difficult. You know, we've we say that in 100x life, but to count transformations is a much different thing than counting salvations. And that's what my life is about. I just I all I want to do is focus on those people who've said yes and get them transformed, abiding.
experiencing the abundant life. And so guys, I'm really grateful. I'm grateful for your participation. And for those of you who are listening, 100x lifers, become a coach. And you could visit the website and find out how to do that
John (51:00)
And finding out the hood.
Rob Dayton (51:03)
and just think about it, get it, get acquainted with that. love to have a conversation with you. I you know what's really interesting.
from both of your groups, I've had conversations with guys who've been through the process and it's been so fun to be on the phone with them and just listen to their stories, you know, of transformation. I'm if I could learn a better way to transform a guy.
That's that's heyday for me. That's gold. That's like the best experience of life. That's what I'm telling Nancy. Like, my gosh, I got the you won't believe what I heard about how someone transformed and how it happened. Jehovah Sneaky's at work and it's getting more
Jim Johnson (51:37)
Ha ha ha.
Rob Dayton (51:38)
powerful. So guys, thank you so much. Really appreciate any final words, John? Any final words?
John (51:45)
it's there's nothing better, Rob, than to you know, walk, you know, in l in in experiencing Jesus love in your own life and then to see others g getting that as well. And there's nothing better than that. I know there are going to be coaches that come out of this session that we just did, both in Bakersfield and here. That's exciting, right? A reproduction. one
Rob Dayton (52:04)
Wow. Reproduction.
John (52:07)
one heart at a time. So yeah, excited.
Rob Dayton (52:10)
So awesome, Jim.
Jim Johnson (52:12)
for me I think being a coach has been great because one it really helps me to think about and it keeps the words of Jesus in the forefront of my mind for everything.
Rob Dayton (52:20)
Yes.
Jim Johnson (52:22)
So every circumstance that comes into my brain, and just like John when you're pedaling up a hill, every time we get to practice this, it my brain is almost automatically thinking now, well which word of Jesus does this point to?
Rob Dayton (52:34)
Wow.
Jim Johnson (52:35)
Or which one do I get to practice today?
Rob Dayton (52:37)
Wow.
Jim Johnson (52:38)
And that's a great way, like I don't always do it, you know, perfectly, obviously, but you know what? I'm much faster. I'm much better than I used to be. So every time I go through this, every time we coach, every time I think about a different layer of the words of Jesus.
it's a privilege on which one do I get to practice and how do I look at that circumstance and figure out which word of Jesus this is pointing to. So that's my final word. I think it's hopefully it's encouraging and if you're thinking about being a coach, I just encourage you to do it. It's it's it'll be great.
Rob Dayton (53:09)
